Blessings of Nature

Our products contain herbs that are native to the Himalayas of Nepal. Free from pesticides and chemicals, they are gentle to the earth as well as to your skin. A scientist with over 30 years of experience in the research and development of cosmetic products joined our team in developing these products.

The unique healing properties of the herbs and the ingredients that we use are introduced below:

Jatamanci

Jatamansi [Nardostachys]

This was considered one of the most precious and valued fragrances in the ancient Rome. In the New Testament, it appears as the perfumed oil of nard. Its healing properties include the assisting skin cells to regenerate and repair themselves, resulting in a clearer skin tone. Its calming fragrance settles the nervous system and frees us from stress leading to a more restful sleep.

Yak Milk

Yak Milk

As the earth’s crust slowly moved to create the Himalayas over 350 million years ago, sea water was trapped and slowly crystallized to form rock salt. Rock salt with a tint of pink is proof that it is rich in minerals such as iron. Soak in a bath with Himalayan rock salt, it will envelop your body with lasting warmth.

Sea-buckthorns thrive in rugged terrain and bear many nutritious fruits. They are rich in vitamins and minerals, and protect your skin from getting dry. Palmitoleic acid is known for its property to promote skin regeneration, and is said to have a healing effect on atopic dermatitis.

Anthopogon

Anthropogon [Rhododendron]

Anthropogon or Lali Guras is the national flower of Nepal and grows on the slopes of mountains at an altitude of 3,000 – 4,000 meters. Its healing properties include alleviation of muscle and joint pain as well as supporting liver function. The aromatic essence is used for meditation, and its fragrance will heal your tired body and restore peace of mind.

Beeswax

Beeswax

Beeswax is the wax secreted by bees to protect honeycombs. It is commonly known for its moisturizing, antibacterial, and waterproof properties, but it is also known to promote our natural healing capacity. With its anti-inflammatory effect, Beeswax has long been used as medicine, and is used to protect sensitive and dry skin.

Collaboration with Artists

We collaborate with artists around the world to awaken our senses and inspire a new life style.

 SIRI SIRI

Our logo and packages were designed by Naho Okamoto, the designer of the jewelry brand SIRI SIRI. Her minimal yet, beautiful design was inspired by the national flower of Nepal, Lali Guras, and the decorative windows of Katmandu homes she saw during her visit to Nepal in October 2012.

A traditional Japanese decorative knot long used to make an amulet accentuates the simple beauty of the packaging. The decorative knots are made by children who live in a shelter.

 Dai Mogi

Photos that capture the essence of our brand’s story are the works of a photographer, Dai Mogi. Through collaboration with artists from various genres, we hope to create products that inspire beauty and adventure in your every day life.

 Yuri Shimojo

Yuri Shimojo is an artist and painter who captures the essence of messages emanating from the world of all animate beings – people, animals, plants et al. – through her deep observation and listening. We asked her to paint the pictures of the key ingredients we use for our products. Through her paintings, stories and personality of each ingredient were slowly unraveled, in a succulent and warm ambiance that reminds us of Nepal.

For the world where
women can live more freely

photo_dream_01

The founder of Lalitpur, Mai Mukai, first visited Nepal in 1999. Ten years later, the Coffret Project was born with a hope of supporting women victimized by human trafficking through makeup.

Through the Coffret Project, we have provided makeup workshops to over 1,500 women who had fallen into the hands of human traffickers, hoping to play a part in helping them restore their self-esteem through beautiful moments.

However, we were faced with a harsh reality. In a country where the unemployment rate exceeds 40%, these young women who have no family to rely on have a hard time surviving, unable to able to find a job.

We felt that it is important for these women to have a job that not only allows them to make a living, but also gives them a sense of dignity. Lalitpur was born as our next step to support these women.

Lalitpur products are all handmade by Nepalese women with much care and dedication.

In our studio, we have 7 trained women making our products and 25 children from shelters that are making decorative knots that wrap our products.

It is our sincere hope to create more jobs for women and to play a role in making this world a safer place where girls are not sold as commodities.

Message

I started the Coffret Project 10 years after my first visit to Nepal in 1999. It was a way to support women by providing beautiful moments for them through makeup.

After 2 years of preparation, our brand Lalitpur was born with the hope to connect women in Japan with the blessings of the Himalayas while providing jobs, freedom, and self-esteem to the women in Nepal. Our brand philosophy reflects my earnest hope. It is my hope that our products will serve as a bridge that connects the blessing of nature and the women of Nepal with you.

 Founder / President
 Mai Mukaida

While she was in high school, Mukaida visited Nepal and volunteered with a non-profit organization promoting literacy among women. At Keio University, she studied under a sociologist, Eiji Oguma. From August 2008, she conducted a 6-month field work in Turkey, and soon after that she began the Coffret Project. With the hope of creating opportunities for women to restore their innate dignity and confidence, she has delivered over 5000 cosmetics products to countries like Nepal, Turkey, Indonesia and the Phillippines. She also conducted makeup workshops to over 1,500 women. In 2010, she established a natural cosmetic brand, Lalitpur, as a way to create jobs for women victimized by human trafficking and to help restore their dignity. Mukaida is a recipient of numerous awards including the Avon Woman of the Year Award, the Sotokoto Lohas Design Award – People Category Grand Prix, and The Fourth Youth Leader Award.
